Volver (To Become/To Return) features works by Carlos Colín, Michelle Bourget Morales, Osvaldo Ramirez Castillo, Pilar Mehlis, Teo Monsalve, Vanessa Mercedes Figueroa, and Ximena Velázquez.

In partnership with Vancouver Latin American Cultural Centre, Mexico Consulado General En Vancouver, Curated Tastes, and MONOVA, Volver (To Become/To Return) explores themes of loss, dislocation, exoticism, cultural hybridity, and more.

The works in Volver (to return, to become) offer audiences a personal connection to the sensation of feeling foreign and becoming someone else. The complexities that arise from moving across borders and becoming an immigrant of Latin American heritage come to the surface in the exhibition.

“The participating artists reflect a multi-ethnic and pluralistic Latin American people living in Vancouver and responding to their human experience through art,” says guest curator Miret Rodríguez. “I hope Volver (to return, to become) will show the complexities and help expand notions of the Latin American diaspora, art and experience in Canada.”

Volver (To Become/To Return) takes place at Cityscape Community ArtSpace from October 7 to November 12.

People can meet the artists at the opening reception on October 6  from 7 to 9 pm.

On October 15, Rodríguez will lead a guided curator tour from 12 pm to 1:30 pm as part of the North Shore Art Crawl and BC Culture Days.
